Checking out Asterisk

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Asterisk is an open-source PBX and I am currently evaluating whether it could be used to replace our 2 PRI connections, for our “legacy” PBX and a Cisco router, which are quite expensive.

The idea is to put a 2-port PRI card into a Linux box and connect one port to the PBX and the other to the Cisco. Then our two number series would be ported to a SIP provider and the SIP trunk fed to Asterisk box which should route incoming calls to PBX and router respectively.

Currently I am also looking at the Digium and Sangoma PRI cards in order to find out which way to go. It would seem Sangoma are praised for their technical support.

To be continued…
